An important find in the well-known old Atrevida mine, in the summer of 2015 a single geode with crusts of very well defined Mimetite crystals was uncovered. They are millimetric in size, very well defined and translucent with a greenish-yellow color and they show an elongated prism and an acute dipyramid. The Mimetite is more or less completely coating isolated or grouped cubic Galena crystals that are implanted on a matrix upholstered by aggregates of lenticular white Baryte crystals. Furthermore the sample have small laminar Wulfenite crystals that can be observed by close inspection. The Mimetite from this mine was already known, but not with such a well-defined and fine presentation, completely coating the Galena and absent on the Baryte.
Atrevida Mine, 'Amagada' pocket, Sur gallery, level 0, Vimbodí i Poblet, Comarca Conca de Barberà, Tarragona, Catalonia / Catalunya Spain (15/12/2015)
Specimen size: 3.5 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm
XM60EQ
Spheroidal aggregates of Pyrolusite, with columnar crystals with striated faces of considerable size and extraordinarily shiny surfaces, which contrast with the aggregates of Romanèchite, which have a more powdery appearance and a deep black color, on a limonite matrix. The specimen is of exceptional quality for both the locality and the species.
