Wire Silver

One of the major novelties in the 2001 Ste. Marie / Denver Shows was the new wire Silver from Uchucchacua, Lima, Peru. They were found at the start of this year and their quality and beauty is comparable to the best finds from the old famous localities such as Kongsberg, with maybe better luster on the Silver crystals.
On some cases it is better to take care. For this reason we took our time to analyze the matrix of this new specimens and for to check carefully each specimen to be sure that nothing was faked. Analysis proved that the dark brownish matrix of these specimens is a natural amorphous Silicate of Manganese and that the white-yellowish crystals are Rhodochrosite. As usual, we will send copy of this analysis to the buyers of the specimens.

E85F: Silver with Pyrargyrite and Rhodochrosite. From this famous mine comes this very free standing "silver tree" partially covered by black round Pyrargyrite crystals. Good display given the pink Rhodochrosite matrix.

MV89AC8: Stalactitic growth of Quartz (amethyst variety) crystals with practically no prisms. They have a very deep color, an intense luster and are very rich in inclusions.

MF50AA9: Two parallel stalactitic growths of very sharp and bright crystals, with a very intense, deep and uniform color, that are on a base of white chalcedony. The sample is from a recent find in a new quarry at the locality.

MB93AA9: Perimorph growth of very sharp and bright crystals with a very deep violet color, very rich with oxide inclusions and with recrystallized hematoid Quartz microcrystals on the edges. The amethyst grew coating a group of Calcite crystals, subsequently dissolved and completely missing, that left a big cavity with geometrical forms.

MB99I0: The quality of its color is extraordinary. Crystals have different intensities of color on the prism and the rhombohedron, it is more intense on the terminations. The group is a stalagmite which once covered a hexagonal crystal of Calcite, now gone, but it left a mold in the center of the specimen. We note the precision of the quarry’s name, until now very difficult to determine on Uruguayan specimen.
The specimen has been reviewed, photographed and published as a new discovery in the magazine ‘Mineral Up’ on page 54 in number 2007/1.

TR90X8: Partially doubly terminated scalenohedral Calcite crystal with parallel growths on the lower and micro-recrystallization on the surface of its faces. It is implanted on a geode of Quartz (amethyst) crystals that in the area near the Calcite have abundant black Hematite inclusions.

TP50I8: An extraordinary formation of amethyst crystals that covers completely a scalenohedral crystal of Calcite, preserving its original form. Color and luster are magnificent. It is from the classic zone of Artigas, actually worked by experienced mineralogists, so the samples found are especially interesting.

MR72AB7: Druse of Quartz (variety amethyst) crystals, one of them clearly dominant and with a considerable size. They are coating the surfaces of a group of now missing Calcite crystals, preserving their original shape. The crystals show a neat geometric color zoning, clearer on the prism faces and deep violet on the terminations. The sample is from a not well known quarry at the classic Artigas área and where very interesting and esthetic samples are today being recovered.

MF26M5: Scalenohedral crystal of Calcite in a geode of Quartz (amethyst). The crystal has three channels that coincide with the acute edges and these contain thin growths of Hematite microcrystals. Within the crystal there is a very well defined inclusion of red Hematite. The sample is from a new quarry in the well known region of Artigas.
The specimen has been reviewed, photographed and published as a new discovery in the magazine ‘Rivista Mineralogica Italiana’ on page 138 in number 2009/2.

TG70T2: Stalagmitic growth of Quartz (amethyst) crystals with their prism more developed than usual on this kind of sample, very bright, with excellent color and very well marked phantom growths. The amethyst completely coats a Calcite crystal whose section is seen on the bottom of the sample.

MN89X3: Scalenohedral Calcite crystals showing a very marked penetration twin between rhombohedra, with the twin plane outlined by small oriented Hematite crystals, a distinctive feature of the specimen. The Calcite is perched on a matrix of lustrous Quartz (variety amethyst) with a deep and uniform color.

Geologically, the Calcite crystallized during a hydrothermal stage later than the formation of the Quartz geode. The Hematite was subsequently deposited selectively on the surface of the Calcite, concentrating preferentially along the twin plane and naturally highlighting this crystallographic feature.

TC740EB: Druse of Quartz crystals (amethyst variety) translucent, shiny, and partially covered by two generations of what appear to be Calcite crystals, a first generation with hexagonal outlines, polycrystalline surfaces and a reddish color due to the presence of abundant Hematite crystals, and covered by a second generation of Calcite which formed pale yellow equant crystals.

MT99AK9: Dendritic growth of flattened octahedral Gold crystals with very well defined faces and edges. Taking into account the frequent debates about Venezuelan Golds, we decided to analyze the specimen. The analysis showed a Palladium content of around 0.5%, significant but insufficient to consider it “Palladian Gold”. We will send the buyer a copy of the analysis.
