TR48AL5: A novelty at Tucson 2020
Groups of very sharp Olivenite crystals, many of them doubly terminated, with very well-defined faces and edges and perfect terminal faces. The crystals are transparent to translucent, lustrous, and have a very deep olive-green color. They are set on a Quartz-rich matrix partially coated by small yellowish-white botryoidal aggregates of Hydroniumjarosite.
As on so many other occasions at Milpillas, these Olivenites are among the best known for the species.

The Milpillas deposit is a partially oxidized porphyry copper system belonging to the Laramide copper belt of northern Sonora. A particularly well-developed supergene profile formed above the primary Chalcopyrite-Bornite mineralization, producing successive zones of oxidation and secondary copper enrichment. This intense supergene alteration is responsible for the extraordinary diversity of secondary copper minerals for which Milpillas is famous, including these excellent Olivenite crystals.
