EV10Y1: New at Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines 2013
Fine specimen composed of isolated divergent groups of tabular Vanadinite crystals scattered over an unusual matrix of rhombohedral Siderite with well-defined crystals. The Vanadinite crystals show an intense orange-red color and good luster, contrasting with the dark Siderite matrix.
This specimen was published on the Mineralogical Record magazine's website, in its section 'What's New in the Mineral World?', 35th edition, August 14, 2013, and has been featured and photographed in the article 'Bergbau und Mineralien des Reviers Taouz, Marokko' in ‘Lapis’ magazine, on page 67 of issue number 3, 5-6/2026

Geologically, the Vanadinite formed in the oxidation zone of lead-bearing mineralizations, where vanadium-rich solutions reacted with primary lead minerals. The Siderite corresponds to an earlier hydrothermal stage and provided the substrate on which the Vanadinite crystals later developed.

TA50AJ4: Columnar and globular Vanadinite growths with curious and very esthetic crested forms of very sharp tabular crystals with a very intense color and luster and partially coated by white Calcite. Perhaps it reminds one of a swan? A dromedary? Who knows! 😃

TFL50AP2: Floater group of Vanadinite crystals, very sharp, and with colors that range from orange to reddish, with parallel and polycrystalline growths. With minor remnants of manganese oxides on the back of the piece, it has an unusual quality for the deposit.

SV240TXR: A curious specimen formed by a tapestry of very white Calcite crystals on a ferruginous rock matrix that has been partially dissolved, with very clear slit-like dissolution marks, and which in a later episode caused the precipitation of small, very sharp Vanadinite crystals, with colors ranging from orange to reddish and with a group of parallel and polycrystalline growths.

ET27AK6: Doubly terminated Quartz crystal, between translucent and transparent, very lustrous, with inclusions and on a matrix of sharp rhombohedral crystals of Siderite. Although it was found in the Taouz area, it is not from the group of mines at that locality but rather appeared on a nearby mountain that has no relation to the mining complex.

N11BI7: Doubly terminated, very bright and absolutely clear crystal. It is on a matrix of crystallized Siderite. The crystal has curious deformations on the terminal faces and shows inclusions on its central zone.

EJ14AK3: Cyclic twins of very sharp, transparent, colorless, lustrous crystals, in a very unusual matrix formed of fine stalactitic growths of Quartz microcrystals with inclusions of Goethite. This extraordinarily aesthetic specimen is a rarity since it comes from a unique find in 2003 and has not been found since.

Cerussite on Quartz with Goethite inclusions
 

EB66F9: Good quality Cerussits, not so long ago, were relatively common from Touissit and Mibladen, two of the biggest classic localities in Morocco. Samples from Taouz are much more difficult to find. This one is a group of twinned Cerussite crystals with a silky aspect and excellent development on matrix.

EM47Q8: A novelty at Ste. Marie 2010. A group of Quartz crystals, totally or partially coated by limonite and botryoidal growths of small crystals of Malachite, plus groups of small but very well-defined Azurite crystals with a deep blue color and excellent luster.

The M'Cissi area lies within Alnif Commune, Tinghir Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, along the northern margin of the eastern Anti-Atlas. It is a region rich in Paleozoic outcrops where Ordovician and Devonian sedimentary sequences were affected by Hercynian tectonics and later hydrothermal events. Around M'Cissi, sulfide and iron oxide mineralizations are common, as well as quartz–carbonate veins that occasionally host accessory species like Azurite and Malachite, formed under low-temperature hydrothermal conditions.

In this case the Malachite forms globular growths of small centered acicular crystals, transparent and with a very intense silky luster, on matrix.

This is one of the best samples of the great find in 2017 when Chalcostibites of Rhar el Anz were re-discovered.
