JMF63AP8: Botryoidal Celestine aggregates with concentric growths showing two distinct phases of formation: an interior one, white in color, and an exterior that is a uniform pale sky-blue.
The specimen comes from the collection of Andrés Jiménez Shelly, and is different from the characteristic crystals of this mine.

JST96AP8: Very aerial group of Galena crystals with dominant cube faces and with octahedron faces, not always visible, on the vertices. These crystal faces, despite the antiquity of the piece, have still preserved their very bright luster.
The specimen comes from the collection of Andrés Jiménez Shelly, and was previously in the Folch collection (duplicates), whose handwritten label we will attach.

JTM99AP8: Group of Galena crystals, one of them clearly dominant and very aerial, with cube faces and with the vertices beveled by octahedron faces, very lustrous and on matrix, with white rhombohedral Dolomite crystals.

A classic from the historic Linares-La Carolina mining district, closed for decades, so specimens of this quality can only come from old collections, as is the case with this fine piece.

JBC91AP8: Druse of cubo-octahedral crystals of Galena, very sharp and lustrous and with some of their faces covered with white microcrystalline Quartz.
The specimen, a very rare Spanish classic, even harder to get with this quality, comes from the collection of Andrés Jiménez Shelly.

HM170NA: Groups of Cerussite crystals with good terminations, translucent, shiny and on a Galena matrix. The specimen comes from one of the great classical localities of the Spanish mineralogy.

Anglesite on Galena


 

NAC43XXX: Anglesite crystals on a Galena matrix from Shaft 5 of the La Cruz vein, one of the classic finds from the Linares mining district. The specimen is notable for its excellent luster and the abundance of well-developed crystals lining a small cavity in the Galena.
Specimens of this type are no longer found on the market, except for those originating from old discoveries such as this one, made by Antonio Álvarez around 1990.

Geologically, Anglesite is a secondary mineral formed by the alteration of Galena within the oxidation zone of the deposit. In the Linares-La Carolina mining district, hydrothermal lead veins hosted by Paleozoic rocks gave rise to some of the finest associations of secondary lead minerals found in Spain.

We should also mention that the appearance of this Chrysocolla is very attractive as it isn’t just a crust as usual but it has nice forms covering what seem to be crystals of Quartz and probably Chalcedony. These nice forms together with their great color, generate what is, in our opinion, the best Chrysocolla found in Spain and nearly as fine as the nicer ones from other countries.

SV90RCX: Intergrowth formed by a group of three main Galena crystals with visible and very smooth cube faces, along with figures of the cube-octahedron with graphic texture. Very clean and with a satiny metallic luster characteristic for the species. This specimen comes from a classic deposit of Spanish mineralogy, the La Cruz mine group in Jaén, Andalusia, from which not too many specimens are seen anymore on the mineralogical circuit.

JAÉN / Prehnite from Carchelejo

An ophite quarry in Carchelejo, Jaén, Spain produced good Prehnite, some of which are intensely green, with spherical forms, and often associated with brilliant Augite.
The quarry is now closed, so new specimens are unlikely to be found in the future.

NP6AM1: Very sharp and shiny crystalline growths and cleavages of Antimony on a massive Quartz matrix. A Spanish classic, from a locality from which it is currently extremely difficult to get specimens.

TF14AJ8: A complete Scheelite crystal with a polycrystalline base that has small matrix remains. It has a dipyramidal shape, is bright, translucent, and has a deep and uniform orange color. The sample, from a Spanish locality that is classic for the species, is from a relatively recent find.

NA56AJ0: Floater Scheelite crystal with well defined faces and edges and rich in parallel and polycrystalline growths. It is translucent to transparent, bright, and has a uniform yellow color with slightly orange shades. The sample is from the most classic Spanish locality for Scheelite and this one has been recently found thanks to local prospector’s diggings.

EEZ70AQ1: Scheelite crystal with very marked polycrystalline growths, between transparent and translucent, and with very bright luster and intense orange color.

MÁLAGA / Blue Quartz with Magnesioriebeckite

In the Ofite quarries in the provinces of Málaga and Jaén they find these blue Quartz, whose color is due to inclusions of Magnesioriebeckite. The crystals are often doubly terminated.

SM60NAT: Quartz crystals, on matrix, with a clearly bipyramidal habit formed by two rhombohedra with very thin prism faces, practically non-existent, which is rare in Quartz. The crystals are lustrous and exhibit an intense blue color due to Magnesioriebeckite inclusions.

N58KI0: Color and luster are especially intense. Crystals are practically dipyramidal due to the minor development of prism faces. Blue color is due to the presence of fibrous Magnesioriebeckite.

N9HW1: Crystals with a dipyramidal shape, prism faces scarcely developed, good luster and bluish color due to inclusions of Magnesioriebeckite. They are on a serpentinite matrix.

N11TL3: On an ophitic rock matrix, a group of Quartz crystals showing an equidimensional shape, some of them with cubic shape, due to the minor development of prism faces. Precise analysis showed that their deep blue color is due to fibrous inclusions of Magnesioriebeckite.
The specimen has been reviewed and published in the magazine ‘Lapis’ on page 50, volume 37, number 6, June 2012

MÁLAGA / Spinel

Local collectors found Spinel on Dolomite matrix. The crystal form is not excellent, but their color is not bad and the contrast with the white matrix is good. Plus they are fluorescent (red). Some minor yellow Clinohumite crystals are also present, these are fluorescent too, in this case yellow.

NMB61XXX: Lenticular Azurite crystals forming an interlaced cluster of crystals, on matrix, of a very uniform and intense electric blue color, bright, and accompanied by green Malachite crystals that provide a beautiful color contrast.
The specimen, of high quality for the locality, comes from the collection of Fermín Clemente.

Santa Flora Mine belongs to the Sierra Norte mining district of Seville, within the Ossa-Morena Zone, a Paleozoic geological domain affected by the Variscan orogeny. Mineralization is mainly hydrothermal vein-type, hosted in fractures and shear zones developed in Hercynian metamorphic and igneous rocks.
The veins are dominated by metallic sulfides, mainly of lead, zinc, and copper, with gangue minerals such as Quartz, Calcite, and Baryte. This mineralization style is typical of Variscan hydrothermal systems in the area, historically worked through small to medium-scale mining operations controlled by regional structures.
