This page provides a selection of the specimens that have passed through the Fabre Minerals website and, due to their quality,
rarity, or significance as specimens from interesting locations, have been preserved as reference specimens in #MVM


Babingtonite

Munich 2005 offered some samples from China that were offered as Manganbabingtonite. We had doubts about the composition so we did simple analysis and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results leave no doubts: they are really Babingtonite. They are exceptional in size, their association with Prehnite and Quartz and their agreeable esthetics.
Once more, China amazes us with something surpassing the best previously known for a species!

TJ36AN1: Floater group of sharp Babingtonite crystals with well-defined crystal forms. With translucent and very shiny edges.
We will ship the specimen in its original Perky box from the Robert J. Noble collection, which also contains the label.

Babingtonite with Prehnite
 

MB97G5: On Prehnite, a big quantity of small Babingtonite crystals, but one of these crystals is very much bigger, doubly-terminated, bright and very sharp. We’ll give a copy of the analysis to the buyer.
The specimen has been published in the magazine ‘Lapis’ on page 24, volume 33, number 6, June 2008.

EM68K3: Doubly terminated crystal of Babingtonite with very sharp faces and edges and a considerable size. The matrix is a group of small Quartz crystals with spheroidal Prehnite and small crystals of Epidote. Very esthetic.

TT94N9: An excellent example with a Babingtonite crystal, quite large for the species. It has very well defined faces and edges with perfect terminations, and, most importantly, they are very bright. It is on a matrix of green botryoidal Prehnite and small crystals of Quartz. A definitive piece.

ED64K6: Group of doubly terminated crystals of Babingtonite. They have a more than considerable size for the species. They are on a matrix of Prehnite with Quartz.
This specimen was photographed for the ‘Sainte-Marie Show 2008’ section of the magazine ‘Minéraux et Fossiles’ and appears on page 24 of number 373. We will send the purchaser a copy of the magazine.

EFE88AP2: Botryoidal growths of Prehnite, translucent and intense green in color, with coatings of small, very sharp Babingtonite crystals, on a matrix of very lustrous water-clear Quartz crystals.

THM46AQ1: Prismatic and flattened crystals of Babingtonite, many of them doubly terminated, very lustrous, on a matrix of light green botryoidal Prehnite and Quartz crystals.
The specimen comes from a find in April 2023.

TF96W7: Very acute scalenohedral crystal with very well marked parallel growths. It is very bright and has tones between yellow and orange due to limonite inclusions.

TX17AN2: Druse of octahedral Fluorite crystals, lustrous, translucent and with an intense green color, with a second generation of violet crystals, and all of them outlined by fine white Quartz coatings. Some matrix has been cut awayt at the back, as is often the case with specimens from China.

TFY87AQ0: Isolated Fluorite crystal, very sharp, extraordinarily transparent and lustrous, of uniform green color, with geometric inclusions, on a matrix of Quartz crystals.
A fine miniature, very aesthetic and from a not well known locality.

TC51AM0: Doubly terminated floater Calcite crystal with dominant elongated faces and a very flattened terminal rhombohedron. Translucent, lustrous and very rich in oriented inclusions. The back is complete and exhibits a curious recrystallized growth that makes the crystal appear to be hemihedral.

We especially note the unusual crystalline morphology of the sample, but typical for this locality.

We especially note the unusual crystalline morphology of the sample, but typical for this locality.
This specimen was published on the Mineralogical Record´s web page, in the ‘What's New’ section, report 46, April 14, 2017 edition.

TA71AF1: Floater aggregate of crystals that have a thick tabular shape, with clear and very bright prismatic faces, with inclusions, and a greatly flattened terminal rhombohedron, transparent in the interior and whitish and translucent on their borders. We especially note the unusual morphology of the crystals and, typical for this locality, the curious “mossy” inclusions of, very probably, iron oxides.

TA90AM8: Lenticular Calcite crystal formed by a very thin prism and an extraordinarily flattened, translucent, lustrous white rhombohedron with concentric geometric zoning. Larger than the usual size for specimens from this locality.

Fluorite with Manganoeudialyte
 

ERH97XXX: Group of cubic Fluorite crystals, very well defined, lustrous and translucent, showing a deep and uniform yellow color. The crystals are set on a matrix composed of fine lamellar aggregates of Manganoeudialyite, arranged in rosettes and displaying delicate pinkish tones. The presence of Manganoeudialyite — a rare cyclosilicate known from only a few localities worldwide — adds special interest and rarity to the specimen.

The piece comes from the Tanghekou Mine, located in the village of Tanghekou, in the northern part of the mountainous Huairou District, within the municipality of Beijing. This area belongs to the Yanshan Fold Belt, on the margin of the North China Craton, a geological province of predominantly Mesozoic age characterized by strong tectonic activity, granitic intrusions, and extensive fracture systems that favored the circulation of hydrothermal fluids and the formation of exceptional mineral assemblages.

EF47AK9: Curious recrystallization and replacement of a fossil sponge by microcrystals of Calcite, granular in appearance, but lustrous and pale cream in color. The specimen, as frequently happens with novelties from China, comes from an unspecified locality.

Goethite with Calcite and Pyrite
 

TM61Y7: Very well defined botryoidal, almost spheroidal, growths of grayish black Goethite with transparent Calcite crystals, with small cubic Pyrite crystals, and on matrix. The Goethite has been analyzed and we’ll send a copy of the analysis to the buyer. We regret we can not provide more precise details about the locality but, as frequently happens with Chinese material, the origin remains unknown.
