Fluorite and Calcite

BTC82XXX: Group of cubic Fluorite crystals, displaying a deep green colour that is more intense than is usual for the locality, with white Calcite overgrowths. The specimen is in very good condition and comes from the historic collections of Pere Costa and Eugeni Bareche, adding further interest to the piece.
The Matagalls Mine, also known as the Sant Marçal Mines, was one of the most important fluorite mines in Catalonia. Mining activity took place mainly between the 1950s and the 1980s, with fluorite extracted for industrial use.

Geologically, the mineralization consists of a low-temperature hydrothermal vein hosted by the Hercynian granodiorite of the Montseny Massif. The vein, with a known length of about 700 metres, is composed mainly of Fluorite and Quartz, accompanied by Barite, Calcite, and minor sulfides, deposited from fluorine-rich hydrothermal fluids that circulated through fractures in the granitic host rock.
