Globular groups of Wavellite formed by acicular crystals arranged in a fibrous-radial manner and with a very dark and uniform green color, slightly lighter at the base of the crystals and with others that are more whitish. The specimen, a historical one, dates from the 19th century and is accompanied by a Ralph Sutcliffe label with the complete pedigree of the piece.
The region belongs to the Southwest Irish Basin geological belt, dominated by Paleozoic rocks—mainly slates, greywackes, and limestones—deformed during the Variscan cycle. In some ancient fractures and cavities, secondary mineralizations occur, including Prehnite, generally associated with low-temperature hydrothermal processes linked to dikes and veins formed after the deformation.
