Well-defined and clean Sorensenite crystals for the species, well individualized, with an elongated tabular habit and clearly visible terminations, implanted on a light-colored and compact matrix. The sharpness and the absence of alterations or inclusions allow the morphology of the crystal group to be well appreciated.
Kvanefjeld is one of the most important and best studied mineralogical areas of the extraordinary Ilímaussaq alkaline complex, located in southern Greenland, near Narsaq. It is one of the world’s most famous peralkaline complexes, dominated by rocks such as nepheline syenites and, especially, extremely evolved agpaites. This geological environment is exceptional because of its enrichment in rare elements (REE, Zr, Nb, Be, U, Th), giving rise to a unique mineralogical paragenesis with numerous rare and type species. Crystallization in cavities and pegmatitic zones favors the development of well-formed crystals of uncommon species, many of them exclusive to or first described from this complex.
