NTB12XXX: Fe-bearing Siderite with Calcite

Group of lenticular crystals of Fe-bearing Siderite, light brown in colour, lustrous and well defined, forming a compact druse. The specimen displays a harmonious arrangement of the crystals, enhanced by the presence of white Calcite crystals that provide colour contrast. Geologically, the Siderite formed from iron-rich hydrothermal fluids that circulated through fractures and cavities within the deposit, crystallizing under relatively low-temperature conditions. The Calcite corresponds to a later stage of the mineralization, having developed from calcium-rich fluids that precipitated over the previously formed crystals of Fe-bearing Siderite.

Big lenticular crystal with a clear brown color and very well defined faces and edges that underline its complete contour. It has a well-developed flat pinacoidal surface and very well marked parallel growths on its rhombohedral faces.

Botryoidal Siderite (variety sphaerosiderite) on matrix with very sharp platy Baryte crystals that are translucent and have geometric zoning.

ETB76AN9: Siderite (variety sphärosiderite) with Baryte

Botryoidal aggregates of Siderite with a habit traditionally called sphaerosiderite. They are translucent, with good luster, a green to dark honey color, and are on a rocky matrix with lamellar Baryte crystals and small Quartz crystals on the back.

TR89AF6: Siderite after Calcite with Pyrite

Druse of very well defined rhombohedral Siderite crystals which are cast pseudomorphs after Calcite. During the process of the substitution, wall-like external shells were left behind. The siderite casts are on matrix, with small Pyrite crystals.

I do feel a little love for the siderites of Panasqueira. With much less fame than other mineral species from this mine, its variety of forms and its frequent association with other species always attracted me. This specimen well represents what I want to say - The crystal is sharp, its color is pleasant and it shows in its center a kind of growth phantom of trigonal symmetry. In addition, it is associated with Muscovite and Arsenopyrite, both of good quality.

Parallel aggregates of very flattened rhombohedral Siderite crystals on matrix, with leafy Muscovite aggregates and very well defined and bright Arsenopyrite crystals partially coated by small Pyrite crystals. The upper levels of Panasqueira are currently offering surprising and pleasant novelties, with samples that are different from what is already known.

Botryoidal Baryte aggregate with a reddish color due to reddish slate inclusions. With botryoidal Siderite that has very dark brown color, almost black, and with small white and very acute scalenohedral Calcite crystals. The sample is from a locality that is rarely represented in mineral collections.

Group of very sharp lenticular crystals of Siderite with different shades of brown, some of them very aerial and more developed. On the back of the piece a delicate group of very fine tabular Calcite crystals with a pale cream color adorns the piece. It is amazing that the specimen came from an area of coal mines, at La Mure.

Group of Siderite crystals with sharp crystal forms, with slight curvatures, a satin luster and a highly contrasted double coloration, with darker and lighter brown areas. On matrix, with small crystals of Calcite and Sphalerite. We will send the specimen in its original Perky box from the Robert J. Noble collection, which also contains the label, which shows that it was previously in the Alfredo Petrov collection.

Panasqueira has been producing well-crystallized specimens of all kinds of mineral species for many decades. This great mine is distinguished not only by its fluorapatites, but its siderites too are of high quality and their crystal habits can be very varied. In addition, other well-crystallized species may be associated with them, such as Ferberite, small crystals of Pyrite and Chalcopyrite, and Calcite-Dolomite.

MF14AH7: Siderite with Fluorapatite

Floater rhombohedral Siderite crystal with apparent foliations that really are recrystallizations. Its honey color and the transparency are not usual for Siderite from this mine, generally it is more opaque. There is an associated growth of uncommon doubly terminated Fluorapatite crystals, between translucent and transparent, bright and white in color. These unexpected Fluorapatite crystals have been analyzed and we will send a copy of the analysis to the buyer.
