TLF43XXX: Rinkite-(Ce) with Aegirine
Group of Rinkite-(Ce) crystals with an elongated habit and strongly striated, forming parallel aggregates of great definition and excellent development for the species, standing out both for their size and for their quality of preservation. A very representative specimen with an unusual degree of crystal development. It comes from the collection of the Museum of the University of Copenhagen, which adds a particularly relevant historical and provenance value. Rinkite-(Ce) is a complex rare earth silicate typical of highly evolved peralkaline complexes, where the concentration of incompatible elements favours the crystallization of rare species such as this one. Ilímaussaq is an alkaline igneous intrusion of Mesozoic age located in southern Greenland. It is one of the most famous peralkaline complexes in the world, dominated by rocks such as nepheline syenites and, especially, highly evolved agpaitic rocks. This geological environment is exceptional due to its enrichment in rare elements (REE, Zr, Nb, Be, U, Th), which gives rise to a unique mineralogical paragenesis, with numerous rare and type species. Crystallization in cavities and pegmatitic zones favours the development of well-formed crystals of uncommon species, many of them exclusive or first described from this complex.
Ilímaussaq complex, Narsaq area, Kujalleq Kommuner, Southwest Greenland, Greenland  Denmark
