Diaspore is an aluminum oxy-hydroxide that rarely develops into crystals. Fortunately, in Turkey there is a classic deposit where the crystals show good development, color and transparency, as is the case of this specimen, terminated and with a light yellowish-greenish color and with fine vertical striations. This mineral, together with Boehmite and Gibbsite, make up bauxite, a rock which is the main ore of aluminum.

Mostly new after the Sainte Marie 2020 Virtual Show, from a classic Turkish locality but with a different transparency and color. The crystal is incomplete at the bottom, but has very sharp polycrystalline upper terminations. It is transparent, lustrous, deep yellow-green in focused natural light and more yellow under halogen lights, with very clearly visible dichroism shifting between soft red and green.

ET73AM1: Diaspore

New (in part) after the 2020 Sainte Marie Virtual show. From a classic Turkish locality but with a different morphology and color. With its vertical twin plane, this crystal, which is transparent and of great fineness and quality, has excellent terminal faces and very good luster. With yellow-green tones and very distinct dichroism, its color changes between soft red and green, this being visible in all kinds of light, even natural light.

EL26AM2: Diaspore

Two crystals of Diaspore, one of them clearly dominant, with good terminal faces and recrystallization forms. The crystals are transparent, very lustrous, and have an intense and uniform greenish yellow color.

Partially new after the Sainte Marie Virtual Show 2020. From a classic Turkish locality but with a different transparency and color, intense yellow-green under focused natural light, but yellower under halogen light and with an easily visible dichroism changing between soft red and green.

EXA87AO9: Diaspore (double twin)

Obtained at Ste. Marie 2022 Cross twinning of two very sharp doubly terminated Diaspore crystals, transparent, lustrous and pale greenish yellow colour. One of the terminations is rough but unbroken. With LED light, a marked dichroism can be seen that changes from yellow to violet. The specimen is of high quality.

EV10AL9: Diaspore (twinned) with Rutile

A twin of two Rutile crystals with different terminations. One crystal shows well-developed terminal faces, whereas the other ends in a sharp polycrystalline growth. The longer crystal has a partially incomplete termination. The crystals are transparent, with good luster and abundant Rutile inclusions. Under focused natural light they show a yellowish-green color, becoming yellower under halogen illumination. Their dichroism, changing between soft red and green depending on the viewing direction, is clearly visible. The Ilbir Mountain occurrence is one of the best-known Diaspore and Rutile localities in Turkey. The crystals formed in high-grade metamorphic rocks of the Menderes Massif, where Rutile is a common accessory mineral. Compared with most specimens from the locality, these crystals are quite transparent, with a distinct color response under different lighting conditions.

SV2160TBC: Diaspore after Spinel with Muscovite

Two Spinel crystals of considerable size that have been pseudomorphed almost entirely by Diaspore. They are embedded in a matrix that displays a multitude of sheets formed by brown leafy Muscovite aggregates with bright reflections. Quite a mineralogical curiosity from Madagascar which was in the old collection of Robert-Auguste Touchon. The specimen has been analyzed and we will send a copy of the analysis to the buyer.

ELR87AO9: Diaspore on Chloritoid and with Margarite

Obtained at Ste. Marie 2022 Elongated Diaspore crystals, two of them clearly dominant, with very sharp crystal forms with excellent terminations, transparent, with good luster and a nice light yellow color. On matrix on abundant well crystallized Chloritoid and with white fibrous and lamellar intergrowths of Margarite. The specimen is of an extraordinary elegance and perfection. The Chloritoid has been analyzed and we will send a copy of the analysis to the buyer.

EXX67AP2: Diaspore with Ilmenite, Rutile and Margarite

Flattened prismatic Diaspore crystal, large, transparent to translucent, with bright luster and an intense greenish yellow color and with steps at the base of the crystal and on a specific area of the rear where it is difficult to know whether they are stepped growth or cleavages. Its terminations are covered by Ilmenite crystals, with Rutile microcrystals and leafy aggregates of Margarite. The Ilmenite has been analyzed and we will send a copy of the analysis to the buyer.

TBB27CD3: Diaspore with Margarite

V-twinned Diaspore crystals, very thick, with perfectly defined faces and edges. They are well terminated, have very deep green tones, especially towards the rhombic terminal faces, and bear parallel fibrous growths of Margarite crystals, which in most of them are embedded in Diopside. A Turkish classic. Very potent specimen for the locality of origin.

ER94AM1: Diaspore with Margarite

A large doubly terminated scepter and stepped crystal of Diaspore with polycrystalline terminations, transparent, lustrous, yellow with green reflections and partially covered in some areas by leafy growths of Margarite. A very remarkable specimen both for its size and color and for its perfection.
The specimen has been reviewed, photographed and published in the Russian magazine ‘Mineral Observer’ on page 86 in the volume 26/2021, number 1

TPP27AO4: Diaspore with Margarite and Ilmenite

Floater crystal of Diaspore, doubly terminated and twinned, with parallel growths and excellent terminations. Very transparent and limpid, lustrous, and of a peculiar yellow color with green reflections, partially covered by lamellar Margarite crystals, and with some small Ilmenite crystals too.

TAB89AO6: Diaspore with Margarite and Rutile on Hematite

Complete twin of two Diaspore crystals with very sharp crystal forms, between transparent and translucent, with good luster and a yellow color with green tones, and with fibrous intergrowths and white lamellar Margarite. What differentiates them from other specimens from this locality is that they are implanted on a group of Hematite crystals with a hexagonal outline and with small Rutile crystals. These specimens have been analyzed and we will send a copy of the analysis to the buyer.

Partially new after the Sainte Marie Virtual Show 2020. A doubly terminated and floater crystal with polycrystalline terminations that have intergrowths of Mica (probably Margarite) and small acicular crystals of Rutile. The specimen comes from a classic Turkish locality but is distinguished by its great transparency and color, an intense yellow-green under focused natural light and a more yellow under halogen light and with an easily visible dichroism changing between soft red and green tones.

ET29AM1: Twinned Diaspore

Two flattened and doubly terminated crystals of Diaspore that form a markedly angular twin, with polycrystalline terminations and fine striations on the prism faces. The two crystals are transparent to translucent, lustrous, and greenish-yellow in color.

A partial novelty after the Sainte Marie 2020 Virtual Show. From a classic Turkish locality but with a different morphology and color. With a vertical twin plane, the crystal has excellent terminal faces, is transparent and very lustrous, and is very fine and of great quality. With greenish yellow tones and marked dichroism, it changes color between soft red and green depending on the type of incident light and the angle of incidence of the light.
