Small crystals of Cyprine with a well-defined blue to blue-green color, distributed on a light-colored granular matrix. The contrast between the intense color of the Cyprine and the white Quartz matrix is notable. The crystals show good development and luster, with localized concentrations of color.
Cyprine is a complex copper-rich silicate whose composition includes calcium, aluminum, and magnesium, with copper being responsible for its characteristic blue tones. This type of mineralization forms in contact metamorphic environments, typically associated with skarns developed in carbonate rocks.
Øvstebø lies within a classic region of southern Norway characterized by Precambrian metamorphic basement rocks, with abundant gneisses and amphibolites. Pegmatitic bodies are common in this setting, some of them hosting interesting mineralizations typical of Scandinavian pegmatites.
