Group of small crystals and coatings of intense green Conichalcite, with bluish-green areas on small Quartz crystals, contrasting with the reddish-brown ferruginous matrix. Particularly noteworthy are the saturation of the Conichalcite color and its distribution on the Quartz crystals.
A different and unusual specimen, due to the arrangement and appearance of the mineralizations.
The Jean Baptiste Mine is a small historic mine located in the Kamariza sector of the famous Lavrion mining district, southeast of Athens. The Jean Baptiste Mine belongs to the extensive network of ancient and modern workings at Lavrion, one of Europe’s classic mining regions, renowned for its exceptional mineralogical diversity and long mining history from Classical antiquity to the 20th century.
Geologically, the mineralization belongs to a carbonate-replacement Pb-Zn-Ag system hosted in marbles and metamorphic schists of the Attic-Cycladic complex, with abundant supergene oxidation processes responsible for numerous secondary copper, lead, zinc and arsenic minerals.
