Clinozoisite-Epidote (Series) crystals, implanted on a matrix covered by greenish aggregates. Particularly noteworthy is the extraordinary clarity and transparency of the main crystal, with an intense and uniform colour that allows its internal structure and well-defined faces to be clearly appreciated.
The specimen also has additional historical and mineralogical interest. Crystals of this type from the Dauren pegmatite were identified in the past as Allanite-(Ce) due to their appearance and paragenetic association. However, after analysing this specimen, we have been able to verify that the crystal actually belongs to the Clinozoisite-Epidote Series, thus correcting the erroneous attribution.
Geologically, these minerals formed during the late stages of crystallization of the granitic pegmatites of the Iveland-Evje district, where fluids rich in calcium, aluminium and rare-earth elements favoured the development of complex species.
