Afghanite on a Calcite matrix with Muscovite and Pyrite, with a main crystal that stands out for its good size, intense blue color, and for being very aerial on the matrix. The well-individualized crystal, strongly contrasting with the light-colored Calcite, gives the specimen a higher quality than is usual for this species.
Sar-e-Sang is known for its lapis lazuli mineralization, developed in metamorphosed carbonate rocks, mainly marbles, related to contact metamorphic processes. Afghanite occurs associated with these mineralizations, together with Calcite and other minerals such as Lazurite, Diopside, Phlogopite, and Pyrite, formed as a result of the interaction between the carbonate rocks and fluids rich in different elements.
