An uncommon locality. Crystals are complex, very rich in faces and almost spherical. They are yellow and very shiny and contrast on a matrix of white Calcite.

RA12I2: Fluorite with Calcite

A typical group from Josefa-Veneros, with beveled edges and the color very much intense on the edges than in the faces of the cube. The specimen can be considered as a classic from the locality.

FE76H0: Fluorite with Calcite

The sample has a deep green color. Its crystallography is complex, combining the faces of the cube and octahedron with a silky aspect. The front face is spotted by little crystals of Calcite, bigger on the matrix, and giving a pleasant contrast to the piece.

NM29T8: Fluorite with Calcite

Large cubic crystal with dodecahedral beveling, transparent and showing well-defined geometric color zoning, with hues ranging from intense blue to lilac and violet. The specimen comes from material collected over many years by Fernando Brugos, former owner of the La Viesca claim. This material was carefully documented, with the different pockets and the dates of the finds accurately recorded. Geologically, the fluorites from La Viesca formed in hydrothermal cavities related to mineralized fractures cutting Carboniferous limestones. Variations in trace-element content and growth conditions during crystallization produced the distinctive geometric color zoning that characterizes some of the specimens from the locality.

It is from a locality that seldom offers samples of such quality.

Exceptional locality for the Fluorite specimens, that one must add to the specimen quality. Druse of cubic Fluorite crystals with two well marked color zones, first one is pale lilac and the other is totally colorless. Back side of the specimen is covered by small Calcite crystals.

A contrast of color and forms. I think that the way the Calcite has crystallized is original, with white, lenticular crystals that have grown like mushrooms. Between them there are cubes of intensely lilac Fluorite with modified edges.
