GG37AK0: Fluorite (variety antozonite) with Quartz
Group of octahedral Fluorite crystals on a matrix of white Quartz crystals, with polycrystalline surfaces showing the faces of the cube. The crystals have an unusual black color for Fluorite (antozonite variety). The sample is from the Casado Margolles collection (number FRM 48) whose record we will send to the buyer.
The specimen is from the James Catmur collection and we’ll send the label with it.
This specimen's photo has been reviewed and published in the magazine ‘Mineralogical Record’ on page 598 in the volume 53, number 5, September-October 2022

TBM71XXX: Fluorite (variety blue john)
Group of Fluorite of the blue john variety, showing the characteristic concentric bands of yellowish and violet colours that have made this material famous throughout the world. The specimen displays a compact and well-defined structure, clearly showing the alternation of colour zones produced during the different stages of growth. A particularly interesting detail is the presence, on the upper part of the specimen, of small, well-individualized Fluorite crystals, a not very common feature that adds additional mineralogical interest to a material usually appreciated mainly for its ornamental value. Geologically, Fluorite var. blue john formed through the crystallization of Fluorite in cavities and fractures within the Carboniferous limestones of the Castleton district. The characteristic colour bands reflect variations in the physicochemical conditions of the mineralizing fluids during the growth of the mineral.

Transparent and very bright Fluorite crystals that have a very intense violet color with very well defined color zoning that is darker on the edges and in the centers of some of the crystals. They are on matrix with coal inclusions and partially coated by Calcite and white thin laminar Baryte crystals. These Fluorites should be considered a rarity because they are from uncommon finds.

BTC82XXX: Fluorite and Calcite
Group of cubic Fluorite crystals, displaying a deep green colour that is more intense than is usual for the locality, with white Calcite overgrowths. The specimen is in very good condition and comes from the historic collections of Pere Costa and Eugeni Bareche, adding further interest to the piece. The Matagalls Mine, also known as the Sant Marçal Mines, was one of the most important fluorite mines in Catalonia. Mining activity took place mainly between the 1950s and the 1980s, with fluorite extracted for industrial use. Geologically, the mineralization consists of a low-temperature hydrothermal vein hosted by the Hercynian granodiorite of the Montseny Massif. The vein, with a known length of about 700 metres, is composed mainly of Fluorite and Quartz, accompanied by Barite, Calcite, and minor sulfides, deposited from fluorine-rich hydrothermal fluids that circulated through fractures in the granitic host rock.

EV86AA5: Fluorite and Calcite-Dolomite on Quartz
A Quartz crystal with parallel polycrystalline growths, partially coated by calcite-dolomite, black Magnetite microcrystals and bluish, transparent Fluorite crystals with the forms of the octahedron, cube and dodecahedron developed about equally. Some of the crystals have no prism faces and such crystals have sometimes been erroneously described as β-Quartz.

Aggregate of very sharp cubic Fluorite crystals. They are translucent, with a deep violet color and have abundant small Chalcopyrite crystals included. An English classic from a not well known locality.

Group of Fluorite crystals with a cubic shape and rhombohedral bevels with very well defined polycrystalline growths. The crystals, translucent, have a very marked color zoning between green and an intense violet tone that is concentrated especially on the edges. With small white coatings of Quartz.

HM220NB: Fluorite coated by Malachite on Calcite
Cubic Fluorite crystal beveled by dodecahedron faces, transparent, lustrous, and partially covered by fibrous growths of Malachite, on a matrix of scalenohedral Calcite crystals. A rare type of specimen for the locality.

MPQ92XXX: Fluorite coated by Quartz
Group of cubic Fluorite crystals, greenish in color with a more bluish core, forming parallel growths completely coated by translucent and very lustrous Quartz crystals. The specimen comes from a relatively unusual locality in the Tarn area, something frequent in many specimens from the Alain Martaud collection, of which this piece was part.

A classic specimen from the Berbes mining area, unmistakable.

Perfect cubic crystals that are water clear allowing one to see the white Baryte they sit on. There are also some scalenohedrons of Calcite with the Fluorite.

Individual crystal of transparent Fluorite, lustrous, with dominant cube faces, very finely beveled by the dodecahedron. It is blue-violet in color and sits on a Calcite matrix. Due to the transparency of the crystal, it is easily visible that the cube has grown into a Calcite scalenohedron.

NMR90AP3: Fluorite on Calcite
Group of cubic Fluorite crystals, with a flattened shape and beveled by dodecahedron faces which are much more developed on two of the crystal edges than on the others. They are transparent, extraordinarily lustrous and colorless, and thicker than is usual at this locality when the crystals are elongated. They grew on a matrix of scalenohedral Calcite crystals with iron oxide inclusions that give them their characteristic brownish color.

Group of translucent Fluorite crystals, with good luster and an extraordinarily intense and deep blue color, on crystalline Calcite matrix. The specimen comes from a specific find with this color, made in 1981 in a mine that until then had not been distinguished by specimens with this crystal size.

FA58F7: Fluorite on Dolomite
A very elegant example and different from the ones we normally see from Aouli. On a bed of small crystals of Dolomite there is a group of very well defined crystals of yellow Fluorite, which have contrasting zones of violet. An exceptional specimen for the locality, as Herb Obodda must have known - it was in his collection with label number 459, we will send to a buyer a copy of our analysis of the specimen.

JFD37AN7: Fluorite on epimorphic Quartz after Calcite
Geoda de las Monjas ('The Nun's pocket') is an already mythical name in the compendium of fluorite finds from La Viesca. One of the characteristics of this vug, apart from its quality and the enormous sizes of the best pieces, was what gave it its name ('Nuns' because of the shape of their bonnets) due to the relative presence of Quartz epimorphs after scalenohedral Calcite crystals that had disappeared, leaving only the shell of Quartz that used to coat them. The most desirable epimorphs? Those that also had Fluorite crystals of good size on top of the epimorphs, such as in the case of this piece, which is what makes it such a high-quality specimen.
