MFG37XXX: Pyromorphite with Galena (coating)

Pyromorphite from Les Farges which, although coming from a classic locality, has an unusual characteristic: its very deep green color has a slightly metallic appearance, very possibly due to a thin coating of Galena covering the Pyromorphite crystals. The group, on matrix, has a markedly arborescent development, characteristic of a particular period of mining when specimens of this type appeared. Les Farges produced a great variety of habits and colors, but these arborescent specimens, with their very deep green color, are especially characteristic. The mine exploited a lead-bearing vein mineralization, with Galena as the main primary mineral. Supergene alteration of the lead sulfides gave rise to an oxidation zone especially rich in secondary minerals, among which Pyromorphite stands out.

JFD27AN6: Pyromorphite with limonite

An exciting novelty when they were first found. Many different source localities were given initially until we finally found out precisely which mine they came from. They are not spectacular, but nice, with a good green color (sometimes with shades of yellow) and sharp crystals. There was a lot of talk about them because, curiously, Morocco, a country so rich in secondary lead minerals, to date has very few localities for Pyromorphite.

Aggregates of small prismatic crystals of Pyromorphite, a lot of them doubly terminated, with grass green color and very bright. They are spread on a matrix of very dark green botryoidal Malachite. From the personal selection of the collectors of this material, whose samples have been individually numbered. The locality is still a classic for Australian Pyromorphite.

Lustrous yellowish green crystals of Pyromorphite with a barrel-shaped habit, on a Quartz matrix, with recrystallizations of light yellow-brown Mimetite. It comes from a classic French locality that has been reopened for specimen production.
