Group of Proustite crystals rich in faces, with prismatic habit and pyramidal terminations. Translucent, with good luster and an intense color, on matrix with Dolomite. From a German locality considered to be a great classic for the species.
The Himmelsfürst Mine is part of the famous historical Freiberg mining district, one of the classic silver-mining centers of Central Europe, active since the 12th century. This district lies in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains), a Variscan massif with polymetallic hydrothermal veins rich in silver, lead, zinc, cobalt and nickel, with mineralizing phases between the Late Paleozoic and later hydrothermal episodes.
Himmelsfürst reached particular importance in the 17th–19th centuries due to its high silver contents and for being an enclave linked to the Freiberg Mining Academy. After the cessation of mining work, thanks to local seekers, secondary crystallization has been found in cavities and oxidation zones that has produced very appreciated mineral specimens.
