FC76: Dolomite
A curious specimen. It is a Dolomite totally covered (but not pseudomorphosised) by a thin chocolate cover of iron oxides. First impressions when you look at the specimen are: nice Siderite! When you look more carefully you will discover that the primary crystals are really white curved Dolomite crystals totally covered by a lustrous, brilliant, colorful coating. Something different!
Vekol Mine, Sif Vaya area, Vekol District, Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation, Pinal County, Arizona  USA

NLL16AO5: Dolomite (Fe-bearing dolomite)
Iron-bearing Dolomite crystals with a very pronounced saddle shape, with strong curvatures and polycrystalline growths, with good luster and a color between light brown and pink, on matrix. The specimen comes from the collection of Santiago Jiménez who, especially in the 1980s and '90s, managed to collect many rarities from urban and peri-urban areas of Northern Spain, very little disclosed before in the mineral collecting world.

.
JFD182AP2: Dolomite (twinned)
The great classics are always great classics! Even though it is not a top piece, more than anything because of the size of the crystal, it is a Dolomite from 'el pozo' in matrix, undamaged, twinned and has that special 'light', that transparency and luster of the best dolomites from Eugui, those of 'el pozo'
Asturreta Quarry, 'el pozo', Eugui, Esteríbar, Comarca Auñamendi, Chartered Community of Navarre (Navarre)  Spain (±1972)

.
JFD228AP9: Dolomite (twinned)
Eugui dolomites are always exciting. I chose this one for its transparency and for that 'clean' appearance that the dolomites from the area of “el pozo” have; thanks to the good disposition of engineer Juan Córdoba. The crystal has a weird growth on one side, but it is a floater and whole everywhere.
Asturreta Quarry, 'el pozo', Eugui, Esteríbar, Comarca Auñamendi, Chartered Community of Navarre (Navarre)  Spain (±1970)
Specimen size: 8 × 6.9 × 4.3 cm = 3.15” × 2.72” × 1.69”
.
SV480EFX: Dolomite (twinned)
Group of very sharp Dolomite crystals, two of them clearly dominant, rhombohedral, with very marked penetration twins, between transparent and translucent, in rock matrix. Worthy of note is a great dark phantom in the main crystal, quite uncommon in such a size in specimens from this locality. A classic for Spanish mineralogy and especially for this species.
Azcárate Quarry, Eugui, Esteríbar, Comarca Auñamendi, Chartered Community of Navarre (Navarre)  Spain
Specimen size: 12.5 × 11.8 × 10.2 cm = 4.92” × 4.65” × 4.02”
.
MAX51CD2: Dolomite (twinned)
Intergrown crystals of well-defined, transparent, shiny, and aerial Dolomite on its matrix. The dolomites from Eugui are one of the hallmarks of Spanish mineralogy, and this particular piece stands out for the great transparency of its crystals and their aerial and individualized shape.

Aggregate of crystals formed by the positive and the negative rhombohedron, twinned, very sharp and transparent. They have grown on a first generation of translucent white rhombohedrons of the same Dolomite. From the John Barlow collection, this perfect twin of two Dolomite crystals shows the degree of transparency and brilliance that has made the Dolomite from Eugui so famous. A very esthetic floater.

JFD36AN7: Dolomite (variety Fe-bearing dolomite) with Calcite
I had seen many pieces from this locality, but never found one that completely satisfied me. In 2013, Ester Pulido from 'Tesoros Naturales' had this piece and, given how 'fresh' the Fe-bearing Dolomite looked, and the beautiful edging of the white Calcite, I really liked it and bought it from her. In fact I still think that it is very beautiful for what is usually seen in this locality.
Iron mines of Ojos Negros, Ojos Negros, Comarca Jiloca, Teruel, Aragon  Spain
Specimen size: 11.6 × 9.4 × 5 cm = 4.57” × 3.70” × 1.97”

Main crystal size: 2.7 × 2.2 cm = 1.06” × 0.87”
.
JFD224AP8: Dolomite (variety Fe-bearing dolomite) with Pyrite
Lots of history in this piece. It came from the Folch collection (duplicates) labeled as “Ankerite”, a name commonly ascribed in the past to more or less iron-bearing dolomites, since it was difficult then to analyze them adequately. At one time I sold it to Francesco S. Stoppani and it resided in his collection until Francesco decided to sell it, and on repurchasing it I decided to repatriate it because I had always liked it a lot and it had seemed quite unique to me. Its only drawback is that we cannot know with certainty in which mine it was found, because Folch just labeled it “La Unión”, and the experts in that mining district who have seen the specimen cannot say for sure exactly which mine it came from. Typical classic piece, with a lot of history behind it and prettier than usual.
La Unión, Comarca Campo de Cartagena, Region of Murcia (Murcia)  Spain
Specimen size: 11.8 × 9.2 × 4.8 cm = 4.65” × 3.62” × 1.89”
.
ST56AC0: Dolomite after Calcite and Hematite
Aggregate of scalenohedral Calcite crystals, on matrix, with red Hematite inclusions. The Calcite crystals have internally dissolved leaving only remaining the former crystal form. Both the matrix surface and the cavities on it, including the interior of the Calcite crystals, are coated by small Dolomite rhombohedrons. As is the case with so many specimens in this collection, the sample is of great quality for the locality.
Christiane Mine, Adorf, Diemelsee, Waldeck-Frankenberg District, Hesse/Hessen  Germany (±1950)
Specimen size: 9.2 × 5.4 × 4.8 cm = 3.62” × 2.13” × 1.89”

SD99AC3: Dolomite on Quartz and Chalcopyrite
Slightly deformed rhombohedral Dolomite crystals with a pale-brown to pinkish color, with small twinned Chalcopyrite crystals on their surfaces and on a base of Quartz crystals with a very poorly developed prism. It is an excellent German classic for the species and the locality. As is the case with so many specimens in this collection, the sample is of great quality for the locality.
