NPQ90XXX: Silver with Calcite
Specimen very rich in arborescent Silver crystals, grey in colour with silvery tones, growing scattered and well visible on a crystalline mass of Calcite set on a rock matrix. It comes from a mine and a mining district that are great European classics. Příbram is one of Central Europe’s classic hydrothermal uranium districts, hosted in the metamorphic basement of Bohemia. Mineralization occurs in deep fissure-vein systems dominated by uraninite/ pitchblende, with associated sulphides and carbonates. The area was historically mined for silver-lead before becoming a key uranium producer during the Soviet era.

The specimen has been reviewed, photographed and published as a new discovery in the magazine ‘Mineralogical Record’ on page 751 in the volume 47, number 6 (November-December 2016)
